Location and Access

East Fork Bear River Campground is nestled within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Utah, one of the most scenic forest areas in the state. The campground is situated along the East Fork of the Bear River at an elevation of approximately 9,000 feet, offering cool, crisp air and alpine forest surroundings.

To access the East Fork Bear River Campground, visitors typically take the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (Highway 150) from Kamas, Utah, and turn onto the East Fork Bear River Road, which leads directly to the campground. Highway 150 is a seasonal road usually open from Memorial Day to late October, weather permitting.

Camping and Facilities

Amenities at East Fork Bear River Campground include:

  • Tent and trailer sites
  • Drinking water (seasonal)
  • Vault toilets

Reservations and Fees

East Fork Bear River Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and as of my knowledge cutoff date, did not take reservations. However, it is always a good idea to check the latest updates as policies can change. There is a fee for camping, usually per night per site, which is payable onsite.

Season and Climate

The camping season typically runs from early summer through early fall, depending on snowmelt and weather conditions. Given its high elevation, visitors should be prepared for cool nights even during the summer, and sudden weather changes are common.

Regulations and Safety

  • Campfires: Please make sure to only use designated fire rings and check for current fire restrictions.
  • Trash: Pack out all trash as this is a 'Leave No Trace' area.
  • Wildlife: Store food safely to avoid attracting bears and other wildlife.
  • Pets: Keep pets under control and on a leash.

Preparation Tips

  • High Altitude: Be mindful of the high altitude and prepare accordingly, possibly bringing along items to help with altitude adjustment.
  • Water: Although drinking water is provided, it’s a good practice to bring extra.
  • Gear: Warm clothing and rain gear are advised, no matter the season.
  • Navigation: Have a map or GPS on hand as the area is remote with limited signage and cell service.

Before heading out, it is prudent to check for the latest condition reports, fire warnings, and any other advisories that may be in effect for the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and the East Fork Bear River Campground.
