Overview

McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is located in northeastern California, around 65 miles northeast of Redding. The park’s centerpiece is the 129-foot Burney Falls, which is not the highest nor the largest waterfall in the state, but possibly the most beautiful, according to Theodore Roosevelt.

Camping Information

Reservation:

  • Reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak seasons like summer. They can be made 6 months in advance through the ReserveCalifornia website or by calling.

Campsites:

  • The park offers 121 developed campsites, which are equipped with amenities such as restrooms, showers, and picnic tables.
  • There are both tent and RV sites available; however, there are no RV hook-ups.
  • Bear-proof food lockers are provided, and their use is mandatory to protect wildlife and your food supply.

Camping Fees:

  • Overnight camping fees are based on site type and season. Fees are subject to change, so it is best to check the California State Parks website or call the park directly for current rates.

Campground Facilities:

  • Facilities include an RV dump station, a campfire center, and a general store nearby where you can purchase basic supplies.

Park Activities

Hiking:

  • The park offers a network of trails, including the popular Falls Loop Trail (~1 mile) that provides excellent views of Burney Falls.

Fishing and Boating:

  • Lake Britton, accessible within the park, is a hot spot for fishing, boating, and swimming.

Wildlife Viewing:

  • The park’s diverse habitats make it a great location for bird watching and seeing other wildlife.

Seasonal Availability

  • The park is open year-round, though some facilities are reduced in the off-season. Always check the park's status in advance if you plan to visit during the winter.
