Location and Access

Lynx Campground is situated within the Prescott National Forest, Arizona. Located just off the scenic Walker Road, approximately 5 miles southeast of the city of Prescott, the campground provides easy access for visitors from the surrounding areas.

Campsites and Reservations

Lynx Campground offers a number of individual campsites suitable for tent or RV camping, though the length of RVs is typically limited by the size of the parking spurs. Each site usually includes the following amenities:

  • Picnic table
  • Fire ring with grill
  • Access to vault toilets
  • Drinking water spigots throughout the campground

Some sites may also be equipped with tent pads. Campsites in Lynx Campground can be reserved in advance through a reservation system, such as Recreation.gov, which is commonly used for federal campgrounds. Some sites, however, may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Recreational Activities

Lynx Campground is a hub for various outdoor activities, which include:

  • Fishing: Lynx Lake, a short walk from the campground, is a popular spot for trout fishing.
  • Boating: The lake allows for electric and paddle boats, providing a serene boating experience.
  • Hiking and Biking: There are several trails around the lake and in the surrounding forest for both hiking and mountain biking.
  • Wildlife Viewing: The area is home to a variety of wildlife species, such as birds, deer, and even the occasional appearance of a lynx or other large mammals.

Facilities and Nearby Services

The campground is equipped with restroom facilities, and while there are no hookups for RVs, a dump station is typically available in or near the campground. Trash collection service is provided, and most basic necessities can be purchased from the Lynx Lake Store and Marina.

Weather and Best Time to Visit

The campground is generally open from late spring to early fall, which are also the best times to visit. Weather in Prescott can vary with cool nights and warm days. Monsoon season runs from July to September, bringing occasional thunderstorms.

Respect Nature and Regulations

Visitors should always follow the Leave No Trace principles to minimize their impact on the natural environment. Additionally, they should obey all posted rules and regulations, which may include fire restrictions, especially during times of high fire danger. Pets are generally allowed but must be kept on a leash.

Emergency Preparedness

When camping at Lynx Campground, always be prepared for emergencies. Cell phone service can be spotty, so let someone know your itinerary and expected return time. Pack a first aid kit, emergency supplies, and be aware of how to get to the nearest medical facility.

Making the Most of Your Visit

To enjoy your visit to Lynx Campground, plan ahead by checking campsite availability and making reservations, arrive early to secure a site if you’re hoping for a first-come, first-served spot, and come prepared for varied weather conditions and outdoor activities. Remember to respect the environment and other campers to ensure everyone can enjoy the natural beauty of Prescott National Forest.
