Camping Details

Reservations and Fees:

  • The campground typically operates from late May to mid-October, but these dates can vary depending on the weather and other conditions.
  • Reservations can be made ahead of time and are highly recommended, especially during peak summer months. A portion of the sites might be held for walk-ins.
  • Fees are charged per night for camping, and there may be additional charges for extra vehicles. These fees are subject to change, so checking the latest information online or contacting the management is best.

Campsite Information:

  • Kaspian Campground offers tent camping only. RVs and trailers are not recommended due to site limitations.
  • It includes single-family sites, with each site typically equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring, and a food storage locker.
  • Drinking water, flush toilets, and firewood are available for the convenience of campers.

Regulations

Campground Policies:

  • There is usually a limit to the number of people per campsite, often set at six individuals.
  • The use of fire and charcoal is regulated depending on the current fire danger levels. Campers must follow the campfire guidelines and restrictions.

Pet Policy:

  • Pets are generally allowed but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet and attended at all times. It's crucial to clean up after them and ensure they do not disturb wildlife or other campers.

Bear Activity:

  • The area is known for black bear activity; therefore, proper food storage is mandatory to protect both campers and wildlife. Using bear-proof lockers is essential, and campers must dispose of garbage in bear-resistant trash receptacles.

Recreational Activities

Outdoor Adventures:

  • Swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding are popular activities in Lake Tahoe.
  • Hikers can access various trails, including those leading into Desolation Wilderness.
  • Biking trails and the popular Tahoe Rim Trail are accessible for mountain bikers and hikers.

Fishing and Boating:

  • Anglers can enjoy fishing in Lake Tahoe, where they can catch species like Mackinaw trout.
  • Boating is also a favorite pastime, though there are restrictions to be aware of, and boaters need to follow guidelines for inspections and permits due to concerns about invasive species.

Accessibility

Getting There:

  • Kaspian Campground is located on California Highway 89. The closest major city with an airport is Reno, Nevada, about an hour and a half drive from the campground.

Amenities:

  • While amenities like flush toilets are available, Kaspian Campground does not offer shower facilities or electrical hookups.

Considerations:

  • The campground is at a high elevation, which can affect some visitors. Altitude sickness can be a concern for those not accustomed to higher elevations.
  • The weather can change rapidly in the mountains, so campers should be prepared for a range of conditions, from warm sunny days to cold nights, and even occasional summer snow.
