General Information

Pine Springs Campground is one of the more popular camping destinations in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, located in West Texas. This campground is a desert oasis nestled at the base of the spectacular Guadalupe Mountains. It's an ideal starting point for those looking to explore the highest peak in Texas, Guadalupe Peak, and other nearby trails.

Campground Features

  • Tent Sites: The campground is mainly for tent camping, with 20 individual sites available. These sites are all on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved.

  • RV Sites: There are a limited number of RV sites as well, but without hookups. RVs are limited to a maximum length of 50 feet.

  • Facilities: There are restrooms with flush toilets and sinks but no showers. Each campsite typically has a picnic table and a nearby grill for cooking. Bear-proof food storage boxes are available at some sites.

Fees and Reservations

As of my knowledge cutoff in 2023, Pine Springs Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations are not possible. Campers are required to pay a fee upon arrival, which is subject to change. Make sure to check the National Park Service's official website for the most updated information on fees.

Activities

  • Hiking: The campground is a hiker's paradise, with trails ranging from easy walks to strenuous hikes, including the popular Guadalupe Peak Trail, Devil's Hall Trail, and the Pinery Trail.

  • Wildlife Watching: The park is home to a variety of wildlife, from desert creatures to mountain fauna, so bring your binoculars.

  • Photography: Stunning landscapes provide ample opportunities for photography — from the sweeping vistas to the detailed desert flora.

Camping Rules and Etiquette

  • Wildlife: Feeding wildlife is prohibited, and all food items should be stored properly to avoid attracting animals.

  • Quiet Hours: Quiet hours are typically from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

  • Fires: Check for current fire conditions. If fires are allowed, they must be contained within the provided grills or fire pits.

  • Waste: Pack out what you pack in, and make use of the dumpster facilities for trash disposal.

Weather Considerations

The campground is situated in a desert environment, with hot summers, cool winters, and occasional strong winds. Temperatures in the summer can soar well above 100°F, while winter can bring snow and sub-freezing temperatures. Always check the weather before your trip and pack accordingly.

Accessibility

While some areas of the campground may be accessible to those with mobility impairments, the rugged terrain of the park can pose challenges. Visitors are encouraged to check with park staff for the most current information on accessibility.
