Takhlakh Lake Campground is a scenic camping destination within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington State. Positioned at an elevation of about 4,400 feet, the campground offers stunning views of Mount Adams reflected on the clear waters of Takhlakh Lake. Campground Information

Number of Sites: Takhlakh Lake Campground typically features around 53 campsites suitable for tent camping, and some are large enough to accommodate RVs. However, there are no electrical hookups, water hookups, or dump stations for RVs.

Amenities: The campground offers basic amenities such as vault toilets and potable water. Each campsite usually contains a picnic table and a fire ring. There are no showers available on-site.

Access: The road leading to the campground can be rough, and it's advisable to check the current road conditions before traveling. The last stretch of the road is typically gravel and may be difficult to maneuver for some vehicles, especially after weather impacts.

Reservations: Some of the campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, while others can be reserved in advance during the peak season, which generally runs from late June through September.

Activities

Fishing: Takhlakh Lake offers opportunities for fishing, and anglers may catch species like rainbow trout. Washington fishing regulations apply, and a valid Washington State Fishing License is required.

Hiking: There are several hiking trails accessible from the campground, including trails leading to nearby Mount Adams Wilderness. Visitors can explore the diverse landscapes ranging from lush forests to subalpine meadows.

Wildlife Viewing: The area around the campground is home to various wildlife, including deer, elk, and various bird species. Wildlife enthusiasts should maintain a safe distance and follow observance guidelines.

Boating: Non-motorized boats are allowed on Takhlakh Lake, providing a great way to experience the tranquility of the water and the surrounding scenery.

Photography: With its picturesque landscapes and reflection of Mount Adams in the lake, Takhlakh Lake Campground is a fantastic spot for photography.

Important Notes

Weather: Even in summer, the weather at this elevation can be unpredictable, and temperatures can drop significantly at night. Campers are advised to come prepared with appropriate clothing and gear.

Bears and Wildlife: The area is bear habitat, so proper food storage and handling are critical to avoid attracting bears and other wildlife.

Altitude: Because of the higher elevation, some visitors may experience altitude sickness. It's important to stay hydrated and acclimatize to the elevation.

Connectivity: There is typically no cellular service at the campground, so visitors should plan accordingly and inform family or friends of their whereabouts and expected return time.

Forest Pass: A Northwest Forest Pass or other valid recreation pass may be required for parking at the campground and surrounding areas.

Accessibility

Most of the roads to Takhlakh Lake Campground, including Forest Road 23, are open from June until heavy snowfalls begin, generally around October or November. However, road conditions and accessibility can change due to weather and other factors, so it's best to check with the local ranger district for the most current information before planning a trip.
