The park features a campground called Pinnacles Campground, which is managed by a private concessionaire. Visitors can choose from tent sites, group sites, RV sites with electric hookups, and canvas tent cabins.

Camping Reservations

Campsite reservations are strongly recommended, especially on weekends and during spring, which is the busiest season due to the mild weather and wildflowers. Reservations can be made through the National Recreation Reservation Service.

  • Flush toilets
  • Showers
  • A swimming pool (seasonal)
  • Fire rings and picnic tables at each campsite

  • Nature Observation: The park is an excellent place for bird watching, particularly for those wanting to spot California Condors.

Cave Access

The park features talus caves, which are formed by boulders falling into narrow canyons, creating cave-like passageways. Note that the caves might be closed during certain parts of the year to protect bat populations during their sensitive breeding and roosting periods.

Park Access and Fees

  • The park has two entrances: the East and West entrances that are not connected by a road through the park. Plan accordingly, depending on where you're coming from and what parts of the park you wish to explore.

  • There is an entrance fee for the park, and different types of passes are available, including an annual pass for frequent visitors.

Climate and Best Time to Visit

  • Weather: The park's climate is characterized by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Summer temperatures can exceed 100°F, while winter can bring cold nights.

  • Best Time to Visit: Spring and fall are the best times to visit due to the moderate temperatures. In spring, you can enjoy the beautiful display of wildflowers.

Leave No Trace and Safety

When camping and hiking, adhere to the Leave No Trace principles to minimize impact on the environment. Ensure you are also prepared with adequate water and supplies, and be aware of the risks of heat exposure and dehydration, particularly in the warmer months.

Wildlife

While wildlife is an attraction, it's important for safety and conservation to keep a distance from the animals. Remember that feeding wildlife is prohibited.

Pets

Pets are allowed in the campground area and on paved roads, but not on the park's trails or in the wilderness areas.

Connectivity

Cell service in the park is very limited; plan for a lack of connectivity and inform someone of your travel plans.
