Location and Access

Point Pinole Regional Shoreline is located in the city of Richmond, in Contra Costa County, in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. It is part of the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD). Access to the park can typically be obtained from the Atlas Road entrance, which also provides access to the park's main parking lot.

Camping Information

As of my last update, Point Pinole Regional Shoreline does not offer traditional camping with overnight stays. It is primarily a day-use park. However, it's always a good idea to check the latest information with the EBRPD or the park's official website for updates on available facilities and any changes to park services.

Day-Use Activities

While you cannot camp overnight, Point Pinole Regional Shoreline offers a variety of outdoor activities. These include:

  • Hiking: There are more than 12 miles of trails that offer beautiful views of the San Pablo Bay.
  • Picnicking: There are picnic areas with tables and barbecue pits available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Fishing: The park has a 1,250-foot pier for fishing; species like flounder, bay rays, and sharks can often be caught.
  • Equestrian and Bicycle Trails: There are paths suitable for horseback riding and cycling.
  • Nature Watching: The park's marshes and grasslands are home to many bird species, providing excellent opportunities for bird watching.
  • Dogs: Dogs are welcome in the park and can be off-leash in some designated areas, but they must be under voice control.

Facilities and Services

  • Parking: The park has a sizable parking lot that can accommodate many visitors.
  • Restrooms: There are restroom facilities available for day-use visitors.
  • Visitor Center: Although not always open, there is a visitor center that offers educational displays and information.

Safety and Regulations

  • To ensure safety and enjoyment for all visitors, be sure to follow posted regulations regarding fire safety, especially during dry months when the risk of wildfires is higher.
  • Always check for park-specific rules regarding fishing, including any licensing requirements.
  • Dogs must be controlled at all times, and owners should clean up after their pets.

Planning Your Visit

  • Check for Updates: Always check the park's official website or contact the park directly for the latest information before planning your visit, especially if you are interested in any specific activities or events.
  • Weather: Be mindful of the local weather forecast and dress accordingly; the park's proximity to the bay can bring varying weather conditions.
  • Tides: If your visit includes fishing or exploring the shoreline, be aware of the tide schedule as it may affect access to certain areas and the success of fishing.
  • Leave No Trace: Follow "Leave No Trace" principles to preserve the park's natural beauty and wildlife.

Enjoy your time at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline with its unique mix of recreational opportunities and scenic beauty. Always remember to respect the natural environment and other park visitors for a pleasant experience.
