Camping Information

Backcountry Camping:

• Reservations: Backcountry camping requires a permit that can usually be obtained by calling the park or reserving a site online through the Colorado Parks & Wildlife reservation system.
• Number of Sites: There are a limited number of backcountry sites – only three sites as per the latest available information.
• Amenities: There are few, if any facilities. Backcountry sites do not offer water, electricity, or restrooms. You must pack in all essentials, including water, and pack out all waste.
• Access: The campsites are not accessible by car. Campers must hike to their site, so it's essential to be prepared to carry all gear.
• Fires: Due to the risk of forest fires, open campfires may not be permitted. Campers should bring portable stoves for cooking.
• Pets: Pets may be allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times.

Day-Use Facilities

While overnight camping opportunities are limited, Lory State Park is an excellent destination for day-use activities. Here's what visitors can take advantage of during their day visit:

• Picnic Areas: Scattered throughout the park, these areas provide tables and, in some cases, grill facilities.
• Trails: Over 26 miles of hiking trails and 21 miles of mountain biking trails are available for all experience levels.
• Horseback Riding: Riders can enjoy 13.6 miles of horse-friendly trails.
• Water Activities: Horsetooth Reservoir enables access to water sports, including fishing, boating, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding.
• Wildlife Viewing: Lory State Park is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, coyotes, and birds of prey. Always observe animals from a safe distance.
