Camping at SHIKELLAMY STATE PARK
Overview
Shikellamy State Park is a Pennsylvania state park located in the central part of the state at the confluence of the West Branch Susquehanna River and the North Branch Susquehanna River in Northumberland and Union counties. The park is divided into two sections: the marina on the southern tip of Packers Island in Sunbury and the overlook on the western shore of the Susquehanna River in Union County.
Camping Information
Please note, as of my last update, Shikellamy State Park doesn't offer traditional camping facilities such as campgrounds with tent or RV sites. Instead, the park is known for its day-use activities and does not have overnight accommodations. Below is some useful information about what the park offers, which can help you plan your visit even without camping.
Activities
-
Boating: The park's marina is an excellent spot for boating. Whether you enjoy kayaking, canoeing, or motorboating, you'll find boat slips available for rent seasonally.
-
Fishing: The park's location at the confluence of two branches of the Susquehanna River makes it a great location for fishing. Anglers can target a variety of fish species, including smallmouth bass, catfish, and walleye.
-
Hiking and Biking: Trails in the park offer scenic views and are suitable for hiking and biking. Trails range from easy to moderate difficulty.
-
Picnicking: Shikellamy State Park has picnic facilities available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pavilions can also be reserved in advance for group outings.
-
Wildlife Watching: The park's habitats offer opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife observation.
Day-Use Facilities
-
Playground: The park has a playground for children.
-
Swimming: There is no swimming allowed in Shikellamy State Park because of currents and boat traffic.
-
Environmental Education: The park may offer environmental education, interpretive and recreational programs seasonally. These can include guided walks, hands-on activities, and evening programs.
Regulations
-
Alcohol Policy: Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the park.
-
Pets: Pets are allowed in the park but must be kept on a leash and cleaned up after.
-
