Basic Information

Simon B Elliott State Park is a 318-acre (129 ha) Pennsylvania state park located in Clearfield County. The park is entirely surrounded by Moshannon State Forest, making it a lush, green space that is hospitable to a variety of wildlife and plant species. It was named for Simon B. Elliott, a noted conservationist and a member of the Pennsylvania State Forest Commission.

Location and Directions

The park is in the west-central part of the state, primarily in Pine Township. It is on PA Route 153 just north of Exit 111 of Interstate 80. This makes it easily accessible for those traveling through the area seeking a recreational stop.

Activities and Amenities

Camping: The park offers a rustic camping experience with a few modern conveniences. There are 25 campsites that cater to tents and some that can accommodate small trailers. It is important to note that the camping is first-come, first-served, and there is no electricity or full hook-up available for RVs. A sanitary dump station is available.

Hiking: Simon B Elliott State Park has a few miles of hiking trails that loop through the park. As the park is surrounded by the Moshannon State Forest, additional extensive hiking opportunities are available in the nearby forest.

Wildlife Watching: Due to its location within the state forest, the park offers excellent opportunities for bird watching and wildlife observation.

Picnicking: There are several picnic areas throughout the park, many with charcoal grills and picnic tables.

Hunting: Hunting is permitted on about 300 acres of the park. Hunters can find white-tailed deer, turkey, and squirrel among other game species. It is vital to follow the park rules and the Pennsylvania Game Commission regulations when hunting in the park.

Winter Activities: During the winter months, the park provides access to cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding opportunities.

Lodging Nearby

For those looking for more comfort, lodging is available outside the park, including options such as hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts within a reasonable drive.

Accessibility

Simon B Elliott State Park is open year-round, and there are facilities that are ADA accessible. However, not all trails may be accessible for those with mobility impairments.

Pets

Pets are allowed at the park and in the campground, but there are restrictions. Pets must be kept on a leash and under physical control at all times, and owners should clean up after their pets.
