Overview

Bonham State Park is a 261-acre park located in Fannin County, Texas, approximately one hour's drive from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. It was created by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and features a 65-acre lake.

Camping Options

Campsite with Electricity: The park offers campsites with water and electric hookups, perfect for RVs or those looking to charge devices while enjoying the great outdoors.

Primitive Campsites: For a more rustic experience, you can opt for non-electric sites. These are ideal for tents camping and offers a more natural setting.

Reservations and Fees

Reservations: It's recommended to reserve a campsite in advance, especially during peak seasons. Reservations can be made online through the Texas Parks & Wildlife website or by calling the park directly.

Fees: Camping fees vary depending on the type of campsite. There is usually a nightly charge for each site, plus an entrance fee per day for each person. Check the latest fees on the park's website or contact the park directly.

Park Activities

Hiking and Biking: There are several miles of trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking that provide great views and wildlife spotting opportunities.

Fishing and Boating: The park's lake is well-stocked with fish including catfish, bass, and crappie. You can also enjoy boating, and canoes and kayaks are available for rent.

Swimming: A designated swimming area is available, but there is no lifeguard on duty, so swimming is at your own risk.

Amenities and Facilities

Restrooms and Showers: The park has restrooms with showers for campers.

Picnic Sites: There are numerous picnic sites throughout the park complete with grills and tables.

Playground: A playground is available for children.

Firewood and Supplies

You can purchase firewood at the park. It's important to use local firewood to prevent the spread of pests. If you need other camping supplies, it's best to bring them with you or you may be able to purchase them in the nearby town of Bonham.

Regulations

Fires: Always follow park rules regarding fires, especially when fire danger is high. Use designated fire rings for campfires.

Pets: Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet and should not be left unattended.

Wildlife Conservation: Feeding wildlife is discouraged as it disrupts their natural diet and behavior patterns.

Quiet Hours: Most parks have quiet hours (usually from 10 pm to 6 am), which must be respected to ensure all visitors enjoy their stay.

Safety Tips

Weather: Check the forecast before your trip and be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Wildlife Encounters: Store food properly and be aware of how to react if you encounter local wildlife.

Water Safety: Use life jackets when available, and never swim alone. Be aware of water conditions.
