Basic Overview

Scofield State Park is situated in Carbon County, Utah, approximately 10 miles north of the town of Scofield. Known for its lovely reservoir, this park provides ample opportunities for boating, fishing, and ice fishing in the winter months. The park is situated at an elevation of 7,600 feet, offering a cool retreat from the heat of the summer.

Camping Information

Campgrounds: Scofield State Park offers two campgrounds:

  • Mountain View Campground: This campground is on the reservoir's west side and has both tent and RV sites. Facilities include restrooms, showers, and boat launching ramp.

  • Madsen Bay Campground: Positioned on the reservoir's east side, it is quieter and less developed. It offers similar amenities but in a more rustic setting.

Campsites:

  • Campsites include basic, partial hook-up, and full hook-up sites.
  • Picnic tables, fire pits, and restrooms are available for use.
  • Some sites offer wonderful views of the reservoir.

Reservations:

  • Reservations can be made up to four months in advance.
  • During peak season, it is advisable to book early as sites may fill up quickly.

Activities

Fishing:

  • Scofield Reservoir is known for its excellent trout fishing, with populations of rainbow and cutthroat trout.
  • A valid Utah fishing license is required.
  • Fishing can be done from the shore or by boat.

Boating:

  • The park offers two boat ramps—one in each campground.
  • A variety of boats is welcomed, and water skiing is a popular activity.
  • Personal watercraft and wakeboards are also commonly used on the reservoir.

Hiking:

  • There are a number of trails available for hikers looking to explore the surrounding hills and forests.
  • Hiking trails range from easy to moderately strenuous.

Winter Activities:

  • Ice fishing becomes popular when the reservoir freezes over.
  • The surrounding area is suitable for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

Wildlife Viewing

  • The park is a great place to observe local wildlife including deer, elk, and various bird species.
  • Visitors are advised to maintain a safe distance from wildlife and to not feed the animals.

Park Regulations and Safety

  • All campsites must be paid for and registered.
  • Quiet hours are generally enforced from 10 PM to 7 AM.
  • Fires are allowed in provided fire pits but must be extinguished when unattended.
  • Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash.
  • Life jackets must be worn for all water activities.

Scofield State Park is located off Highway 96. To reach the park:

  • Take Highway 6 to the town of Price.
  • Go north on Highway 96 towards Scofield.
