Overview

Parry Peak State Park is a fictional location, but for the purposes of this response, let's assume it refers to an area within the Pike and San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands (PSICC) which span over 3 million acres and are a part of the USDA Forest Service. The PSICC offers a wide array of recreational opportunities, including camping.

Types of Camping

  • Developed Campgrounds: PSICC provides numerous developed campgrounds that may offer amenities such as picnic tables, fire grates, sanitation facilities, and potable water.
  • Dispersed Camping: This is a more primitive form of camping outside of a designated campground with no services. It’s allowed in many areas of the National Forests but comes with greater responsibility to practice Leave No Trace principles.

Reservations and Fees

  • Some campgrounds in the PSICC require reservations, while others operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • You can make reservations through the official website, Recreation.gov.
  • Camping fees vary by location and type of campsite.

Camping Regulations

  • Stay Limit: Most areas have a 14-day stay limit within any 30-day period.
  • Campfires: Always check for current fire conditions and restrictions before lighting a campfire, and make sure fires are completely extinguished before leaving.
  • Wildlife: Store food properly to avoid attracting wildlife; use bear-proof containers where necessary.
  • Pets: Generally allowed but must be under control and on a leash in developed recreational areas.

Camping Etiquette

  • Respect quiet hours typically between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Pack it in, pack it out; leave the site cleaner than you found it.
  • Do not feed wildlife and minimize wildlife impacts by camping at least 100 feet from lakes and streams.

Safety Considerations

  • Weather: Be prepared for changing conditions, especially at higher elevations.
  • Altitude Sickness: Acclimatize to higher elevations to prevent altitude sickness.
  • Water: Treat or boil water from natural sources before drinking.

Activities

PSICC offers diverse activities, including:

  • Hiking and backpacking on an extensive network of trails.
  • Fishing in streams, rivers, and lakes.
  • Wildlife viewing and bird watching.
  • Mountain biking and horseback riding on designated routes.

Access and Directions

As Parry Peak State Park is a notional location within the PSICC, specific directions cannot be provided. However, the PSICC spans a large geographic area, and detailed maps and access information can be found at Forest Service offices or on their official websites.

Contact Information

Before heading out, contact the nearest Forest Service office for the most accurate and up-to-date information. You can find contact information, alerts, conditions, and maps on the official U.S. Forest Service website or by calling the PSICC headquarters.

To reiterate, there is no Parry Peak State Park within the Pike and San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands. For accurate camping information, always refer to official sources or contact local Forest Service offices directly.
